In preparation to Friday’s, October 6th, AEEC DLK Systems Subcommittee Online Conference, Mike Matyas from the Boeing Company, has submitted the latest update to the “Connectionless VDLM2 standards impact” white paper. Below under Reference 1, please find Mike’s comments on the revised document.

Also attached, is Rockwell Collins IMS Connectionless VDLM2 comments. His email is reproduced in Reference 2 below.

Hello, everyone.  To help guide Friday’s discussion, please find attached an updated version of the standards impacts working paper.  It’s already fairly messy, so you may want to hide the tracked changes.

This version incorporates the recommendation from Rockwell Collins to define a new UI frames support parameter (instead of extending the existing AVLC specific options parameter) and it also proposes connectionless versions of certain ACARS timers and counters.  In addition to validating their values, we’ll also want to confirm which timers and counters need connectionless versions.  (I’ve gone back and forth on a few of them...)

Open questions and actions are shown in yellow highlighting.  I think the most immediate question we should answer is how to best perform frequency management, particularly in the scenario when no AVLC link is established because all data exchanges are occurring using UI frames.
