Dear Data Linkers,

In preparation for tomorrow's Joint VDL Standardization web conference, Lynn Root, Universal Avionics Systems Corporation, has provided the attached white papers (and comments below) on Channel Utilization (CU) inconsistencies and Co-Channel Interference:

  1. Specification inconsistencies in the calculation of Channel Utilization

UASC's recommendation is to either leave the specifications unchanged (since the MOPS test procedures for channel sensing are consistent) or, at most, to add a note indicating that CU may vary based on differences in specifications.

  1. MOPS updates for ELSA D10 Section 2.7 - Revision 1

The update clarifies the following:

  * The intent of the test is to ensure equipment can halt decoding a weak signal and decode a stronger signal if it is at least 20 dB stronger as well as continue to decode a stronger signal if a weaker signal at least 20 dB lower occurs after processing of the stronger signal begins,
  * The desired signal and the co-channel interference signal should be input to the unit such that the data content portion of the messages overlap each other,
  * I updated the co-channel signal to be at -70 dBm from -50 in the original proposal.

Review these inputs as they will be discussed during tomorrow's web conference.

Below please information on tomorrow's joint VHF DLK Standardization web conference :

These web conferences, organized by Stephane Pelleschi (EUROCAE WG-92 Chairman), are schedules for every other Thursday, until the end of November (just prior to the next Joint EUROCAE WG-92/RTCA SC-214 VDLSG/AEEC DLK Systems Subcommittee meeting to be held December 5-7, 2017 at the FAA Technical Center near the Atlantic City Airport).
Attached, for your convenience please find the latest version of the ELSA Recommendations Standardization matrix.
