Minutes from the April 4th conference call

Tom McGuffin presented a Honeywell "orange protocol" white paper

  *   Also using "connectionless VDLM2" for ATN over OSI requires additional work but supporting is beneficial (Allows Connectionless in Europe prior to when ATN/IPS is operational)
  *   Connectionless VDLM2 should be used for supporting ACARS AOA, ATN/OSI, ATN/IPS. If not the CMU (triple stack would be too expensive)
  *   Even though the group was leaning towards eliminating ISO 8202 (per existing orange/egg harbor protocol proposal), Honeywell believes this should be reconsidered
     *   keeping it brings benefits that outweigh not using it
        *   Switching between using 8208 and connectionless w/o 8208 is complicated and political
        *   ATN/OSI relies on VDLM2 to deliver INFO frames packets in the correct order; Connectionless doesn't
     *   Restrict changes to existing DLK layer interaction with GS
     *   Some of the "Overhead" issues are avoided since HO are removed for connectionless (simplifies # of messages and their ACKs)
Zbig Jasiukajc' (SITAONAIR) proposed taking greater advantage of Gnd diversity and consider changing "connectionless" to broadcast VDLM2

  *   Group determined if the change were to occur, use the term "multicast" as introduced in ARINC 6180-7
  *   Proposed keeping more of the existing "connection" VDLM2 process
Zbig volunteered to submit white paper for consideration/discussion

Stéphane Pelleschi (Rockwell Collins) provided an EUROCAE/ETSI Standards presentation

  *   Stéphane  proposed a conference call to ETSI for a briefing during the June's Joint VDL Standards Group meeting

Tom (Honeywell) presented a slide from the Honeywell "AoIP" white paper

  *   Preliminary Ethernet study for ARINC 758 CMU shows that a new connector/pin out is not required to CMU rack
  *   Jim Scroggs (Rockwell Collins) commented this is encouraging, they have the same feeling but testing has not begun at RC

Mike Matyas (Boeing) reviewed updates to the frequency management for connectionless white paper

  *   Mike agreed to provide updated frequency recovery white paper

Stephane provided basic information on EUROCAE WG-92 VDLM2 Plenary # 35 / RTCA SC-214 Plenary # 27

  *   Scheduled for April 17 in Washington DC

  *   RTCA DO-281/EUROCAE ED-92C (VDL MOPS) and RTCA DO-224D (VDL MASPS) for FRAC release will be reviewed and considered for approval

Jose Godoy shared SDU and SDU/EICAS ARINC 429 Labels (172 and 270) developed by the AGCS L-Band satcom subcommittee

The next meeting joint DLK Systems SC/RTCA SC-214/EUROCAE WG-92 meeting is scheduled for June 25-28, 2018 at EUROCAE in Paris, France
