Dear Data Link Experts and VDL Avionics Suppliers:

As you may know, the AEEC Data Link Systems Subcommittee has been authorized to develop Supplement 8 to ARINC Specification 631 – VHF Digital Link (VDL) Mode 2 Implementation Provisions, per APIM 17-002A.

Mainly, Supplement 8 will add Broadcast VDL Mode 2 capability (formerly known as “Connectionless VDL Mode 2). Air-ground interoperability tests, as recommended by Enhanced Large Scale Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN) deployment (ELSA) Consortium, will also be included.

In order to confirm that the proposal being evaluated does not have an adverse effect on existing avionics, the DLK Systems Subcommittee (jointly with the RTCA SC-214 and EUROCAE WG-92) is requesting that VDL avionics suppliers answer the attached survey.

This transmittal also includes an invitation reminder to tomorrow’s AEEC DLK Systems Subcommittee Web Conference (joint conference with EUROCAE WG-92 and RTCA SC-214)
