   Many thanks to Claude Pichavant of Airbus for forwarding the below ICAO Council update of Annex 6 Part 1 Chapter 6.18 to change the implementation date for Autonomous Distress Tracking and Location of Aircraft in Distress from January 1, 2021 to January 1, 2023. Please be informed that the ICAO council adopted last Friday the update of ICAO Annex 6 Part 1 Chapter 6.18 to shift the implementation date for Autonomous Distress Tracking / Location of Aircraft in Distress from 1 January 2021 to 1 January 2023 .

6.18 LOCATION OF AN AEROPLANE IN DISTRESS



6.18.1 All aeroplanes of a maximum certificated take-off mass of over 27 000 kg for which the individual certificate of airworthiness is first issued on or after 1 January 20213, shall autonomously transmit information from which a position can be determined by the operator at least once every minute, when in distress, in accordance with Appendix 9.


6.18.2 Recommendation.- All aeroplanes of a maximum certificated take-off mass of over 5 700 kg for which the individual certificate of airworthiness is first issued on or after 1 January 20213, should autonomously transmit information from which a position can be determined at least once every minute, when in distress, in accordance with Appendix 9

An official State Letter will follow informing States about the adoption of the amendments.
The amended provisions will become applicable in November 2020 as part of the official release of Annex 6 Part 1 Amendment 44.
