Subject: Question For NDBers

Sam,

I need to ask the NDB'ers for some information: Task to the working group: Each company needs to define a namespace for their extensions for me to include in the 424A standard.

Oftentimes data consumers need aeronautical data that is not part of the ARINC standard.

Here are two examples:

1. A data consumer needs to know what fuel is available at airports

2. Another data consumer needs to know different runway distances: LDA, TORA, TODA, ASDA

XML Schemas provide a mechanism for conveying this supplemental data in a standard way. The first step in using this mechanism is for each data consumer to create a unique identifier for their supplemental data.

How is this identifier to be formatted? Answer: As a URL.

Example: The Pacifistan Aeronautical Corp requires ARINC data plus supplementary data. To enable the XML Schema supplementary data mechanism it creates this unique identifier:

                http://www.pacifistan-aero.com/ARINC/extensions

The technical term for this URL is: namespace. Thus, http://www.pacifistan-aero.com/ARINC/extensions is the Pacifistan Aero namespace.

Note: the URL need not be an actual URL that can be accessed on the Internet. The URL is an identifier.

Task to the working group: Each company needs to define a namespace for me to include their extensions to include in the standard.

David
